Button Makers

volunteer manipulating the opirg mcmaster button-maker in the OPIRG office

OPIRG McMaster has a hand-operated button maker for one and a quarter inch buttons. The button maker is available to OPIRG Working Groups at no cost, and to non-profit campus groups upon written request, subject to OPIRG Board approval.
Campus or community groups must e-mail opirg@mcmaster.ca with the following information and conditions of use:

  •     Name of Group Requesting the button maker
  •     Event or Cause you are using the button maker for
  •     How many buttons you intend on making

CONDITIONS OF USE

  •     The cost to non-profit groups is ten cents per button, but no charge for the first 50.
  •     Payment is due on the day the buttons are made - cash or cheque only
  •     You will need to book a "how-to" session on use of the button makers, and how to lay out your art work. 1 and a quarter inch: how to manual here, are layout dimensions here. You may use a template to layout your art work here (fit your image into the [very faint] inner circle)
  •     Groups are responsible for providing their own art work.
  •     The button maker must be used in the opirg office, during regular office hours. Please book a time to come in and make your buttons.
  •     OPIRG requests one button to keep for our records/button hall of fame...
  •     If you need help with costs, please submit a request for support to the opirg board of directors.

If you plan on making a lot of buttons, be aware that the manually operated button making process is very labour intensive - if you are thinking of thousands of buttons, you might want to consider a professional button-making company.
