The Body Equity Working Group believes in reducing discrimination based on physical difference, and celebrating our visible differences.
The need for the Body Equity Working Group is reflected in persisting discrimination based on body size differences. Discrimination by visible differences is damaging to the community by shaping unequal opportunities, and by changing individuals' own perceptions of what they're capable of achieving.
The Body Equity Working Group will work to reduce discrimination based on physical differences through a grassroots self-esteem approach.
We will:
advocate for tolerance and anti-oppression in the Hamilton and McMaster community
promote positive body and self esteem within the Hamilton and McMaster community
foster critical analysis of the social construction of body norms through guest lectures
